Description: |
Mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT), is an in-vitro fertilization technique that uses mitochondrial DNA from a healthy donor in an attempt to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial disease from one generation to the next. Genetically, this produces a fetus with three biological parents. Consequentially, this incites much debate regarding the ethics of the procedure. Join us for a discussion on the ethics, efficacy, and biology of the procedure. Below you will find a link to readings discussing the issue. https://www.vox.com/2018/7/24/17596354/mitochondrial-replacement-therapy-three-parent-baby-controversy |
