Description: | This event will be hosted by representatives from Columbia University, in which they will discuss Genetics Counseling as a career path program. Genetics Counseling is a master's program that would allow you to become a genetic counselor with compassion, a sense of self, and the skills to be a leader in genetic and genomic health care. The Columbia University Genetic Counseling Graduate Program curriculum combines basic science and clinical medicine with humanism and professionalism. It emphasizes the skills genetic counselors need in practice, as well as to assess, evaluate, and engage with questions about how genetic and genomic medicine impact us as individuals, families, communities, and as a society. Topics such as health disparities, risk perception, and numeracy, decision science, health literacy, and policy/systemic influences are woven throughout curricular courses in genetics, genomics, counseling, medicine, education, and research. |
