Description: |
Join us to discuss the seventh and last book we are reading this summer, The Heart: A Novel by Maylis de Kerangal. Although this it is a novel, “The Heart” approaches the delicate subject of organ donation through the perspectives of many different people involved directly in the care and life of the main character, Simon. The author is able to blur the line between life and death and what it means to be “medically dead” when the patient’s heart is still beating. Although the book spans over a timeline of 24 hour, it encompasses the many different processes, procedures, and thoughts that go into the morally complicated process of a transplant from both a scientific and philosophical perspectives. We look forward to a lively and engaging discussion. Participation is required. |
